If you only have 3 days in Meghalaya, this is the itinerary. Shillong, Cherrapunji, and Dawki together form the most iconic travel circuit in Northeast India — and I've been running this exact route for over a decade.
Day 1 covers Shillong's best — waterfalls, viewpoints, museums, and markets. Day 2 is all about Cherrapunji's jaw-dropping landscapes — India's tallest waterfall, the famous Double Decker Root Bridge, and ancient limestone caves. Day 3 takes you to Dawki, where the Umngot River is so clear your boat appears to float on air, and then to Mawlynnong — Asia's cleanest village.

- Book the Double Decker Bridge trek for early morning — the descent is steep and you'll want cool weather.
- Dawki is best visited Oct–April. In monsoon, the river is beautiful but boating may be restricted.
- Carry cash — ATMs are scarce in Cherrapunji and Dawki.
- The drive from Shillong to Cherrapunji takes 1.5 hrs — start by 6 AM to maximize time.
- Mawlynnong is best in the afternoon when the light is golden and the village is quiet.
