About Mawkdok Valley Viewpoint
Mawkdok Valley (also called Mawkdok Dympep Valley) is one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in all of Meghalaya. Located on the Shillong–Cherrapunji highway, approximately 55 km from Shillong, the viewpoint offers a panoramic view of a massive, deep gorge that plunges nearly 300 metres below. On clear days, you can see the valley stretching for kilometres, with layers of green hills disappearing into the mist.
The viewpoint is famous for its zip-line — one of the longest and most thrilling in Northeast India — which crosses the valley at height, giving riders a bird's-eye view of the gorge below. Even if you don't do the zip-line, the viewpoint itself is spectacular and is considered one of the best photography spots in Meghalaya.
Mawkdok Valley is a natural stop on the Shillong–Cherrapunji route, making it easy to include in any Cherrapunji day trip. Most visitors stop here for 30–60 minutes on the way to or from Cherrapunji. The area has a small market with local snacks, Khasi handicrafts, and refreshments.
