About Sweet Falls
Sweet Falls (also called Sweetfall) is one of the tallest and most dramatic waterfalls in Meghalaya, plunging nearly 96 metres into a narrow gorge near Cherrapunji. Despite its impressive height and beauty, it remains far less crowded than Nohkalikai — making it a favourite among travellers who want the full Cherrapunji waterfall experience without the tourist rush.
The falls are located just off the main Cherrapunji road, visible from a roadside viewpoint. During monsoon season (June–October), the volume of water is extraordinary — the falls roar with white fury and the mist can be felt from 50 metres away. In winter, the flow reduces but the surrounding landscape turns golden and clear, offering excellent photography conditions.
How to Reach Sweet Falls
Sweet Falls is located approximately 95 km from Shillong's Police Bazar, about 3–3.5 hours by road. The falls are on the Cherrapunji–Mawsynram road, roughly 5 km past the main Cherrapunji town. Most visitors combine it with a full Cherrapunji day trip.
Route from Shillong
Police Bazar → Mawkyrwat Road → Cherrapunji (NH6) — 90 min
Continue past Cherrapunji town towards Mawsynram road — 15 min
Look for Sweet Falls viewpoint signboard on left side of road
Short 10-minute walk down a paved path to the viewpoint
Best Time to Visit
Monsoon (Jun–Oct)
BestMaximum water flow, dramatic mist, lush green surroundings. Carry raincoat.
Post-Monsoon (Nov–Jan)
GoodClear skies, good visibility, moderate flow. Best for photography.
Summer (Feb–May)
OkayReduced flow but peaceful. Combine with Mawsmai Cave nearby.
